May God Find Us Faithful

December 16th, 2010

The bible gives us great examples of people of faith as presented in Hebrews Chapter 11 .
We need to carry this same type of faith with us, following God’s direction and assurance that
what He directs He will compelete thru faithful servants. If we have true faith, we will be obedient
to that direction of God irregardless of the risk.

Steve Green wrote a song “Find us Faithful” that effectively describes
the faith that we always need to have. The words to that song are shown below

We’re pilgrims on the journey
Of the narrow road
And those who’ve gone before us line the way
Cheering on the faithful, encouraging the weary
Their lives a stirring testament to God’s sustaining grace

Surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses
Let us run the race not only for the prize
But as those who’ve gone before us
Let us leave to those behind us
The heritage of faithfulness passed on through godly lives

CHORUS:
Oh may all who come behind us find us faithful
May the fire of our devotion light their way
May the footprints that we leave
Lead them to believe
And the lives we live inspire them to obey

Oh may all who come behind us find us faithful

After all our hopes and dreams have come and gone
And our children sift through all we’ve left behind
May the clues that they discover and the memories they uncover
Become the light that leads them to the road we each must find

REPEAT CHORUS

Oh may all who come behind us find us faithful
Oh may all who come behind us find us faithful

Footprints by Carolyn Carty, 1963

June 19th, 2010

Don’t tell God how big the storm is that you may be passing through. Instead tell the storm how big our God is.  Remember that God said that He would not keep us from going through storms but that He would be there with us as we go through the storm and that we should trust that He loves us and that He is looking out for us. This is exemplified by the poem

Footprints

One night a man had a dream. He dreamed He was walking along the beach with the LORD. Across the sky flashed scenes from His life. For each scene He noticed two sets of footprints in the sand. One belonging to Him and the other to the LORD.

When the last scene of His life flashed before Him, he looked back at the footprints in the sand. He noticed that many times along the path of His life there was only one set of footprints. He also noticed that it happened at the very lowest and saddest times of His life.

This really bothered Him and He questioned the LORD about it. LORD you said that once I decided to follow you, you’d walk with me all the way. But I have noticed that during the most troublesome times in my life there is only one set of footprints. I don’t understand why when I needed you most you would leave me.

The LORD replied, my precious, precious child, I Love you and I would never leave you! During your times of trial and suffering when you see only one set of footprints, it was then that I carried you.

The Disciples Prayer and Commitment

June 6th, 2010

Because of what Jesus gave to us we can respond in love by giving to Him. Jesus wants not only our gift of money but also of our thoughts, our time and our actions. In short He wants our lives to be truly committed to Him. To consider how we may be committed to Him, let us consider the elements of the Disciples Prayer:

  • THE FIRST WORD “OUR”. CAN I REALLY SAY IT  IF I LIVE ONLY FOR MYSELF
  • THE WORD  “FATHER” CAN I REALLY  SAY IT IF I DO NOT ENDEAVOR EACH DAY TO ACT LIKE HIS CHILD
  • I CAN NOT SAY “WHO ART IN HEAVEN” IF I AM NOT LAYING UP MY TREASURE THERE
  • I CAN NOT SAY “HALLOWED BE THY NAME” IF I AM NOT STRIVING FOR HOLINESS
  • I CANNOT SAY “THY KINGDOM COME” IF I AM NOT DOING ALL IN MY POWER TO TELL OTHERS OF JESUS AND THUS HASTEN THAT WONDERFUL EVENT
  • I CAN NOT SAY “ THY WILL BE DONE” IF I AM DISOBEDIENT TO HIS WORD
  • I CAN NOT SAY “ ON EARTH AS IT IS IN HEAVEN” IF I WILL NOT SERVE HIM HERE AND NOW
  • I CAN NOT SAY “ GIVE US THIS DAY OUR DAILY BREAD”  IF I RELY UPON MYSELF INSTEAD OF GOD AND SEEK AFTER THE WRONG THINGS
  • I CAN NOT SAY “FORGIVE US OUR DEBTS” IF I HARBOR A GRUDGE AGAINST ANYONE
  • I CAN NOT SAY “LEAD US NOT INTO TEMPTATION”  IF I DELIBERATELY  PLACE MYSELF IN ITS PATH
  • I CAN NOT SAY “DELIVER US FROM EVIL” IF I DO NOT PUT ON THE WHOLE ARMOR OF GOD
  • I CAN NOT SAY “THINE IS THE KINGDOM” IF I DO NOT GIVE THE KING THE LOYALTY DUE HIM FROM A FAITHFUL SUBJECT
  • I CAN NOT ATTRIBUTE TO HIM THE “POWER” IF I FEAR WHAT MEN MAY DO
  • I CAN NOT ASCRIBE HIM “THE GLORY” IF I AM SEEKING HONOR ONLY FOR MYSELF
  • AND I CAN NOT SAY “FOREVER” IF THE HORIZON OF MY LIFE IS BOUNDED COMPLETELY BY TIME

PRAYER

May our words, actions and heartfelt worship be acceptable in your sight, Our LORD, our strength, and our redeemer.

IN JESUS NAME,

AMEN

Breaking Up Fallow Ground (by Charles Finney)

June 6th, 2010

The following article is for Christians who have had trouble finding the true peace that is promised with conversion. For those who are frustrated because they are constantly struggling with weakness and sin, this could well be the very help they’ve been praying for. Charles Finney saw countless tens of thousands of true conversions and all before the days of radio, TV, or mass publications. Click on the following link for his excellent article:
